No man is an island, entire of itself;   (人不是孤島,本身並不完整)


Every man is a piece of the continent
,   
(每個人是大洲的一小塊)

 

A part of the main.    (大陸的一部分)

 

If a cold be washed away by the sea,   (如果一塊土地被海洋捲走)

 

Europe is the less, 歐洲, 就縮小了一點)

 

As well as if a promontory were,  (一如海峽的一塊)

 

As well as if a manor of thy friend, 也或是你朋友的莊園)

 

Or of thine own, were. 或你自己的莊園,也是如此)

 

Any man's death diminishes me,   (任何人的死都使我縮減)

 

Becasue I am involved in mankind; 只因眾裡有我)

 

And, therefore, never sand to know  (因此,不要派人去打聽)

 

For whom the bell tolls: 喪鐘為誰而敲)

 

It tolls for thee. (它是為你
